Post Laminectomy & Complex Spinal Pain

Many spinal pain sufferers have undergone numerous operations, however still left with back and leg pain. Post-Laminectomy Syndrome (PLS) is a type of chronic pain that can occur after spinal surgery, specifically after a laminectomy. A laminectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing part or all of the lamina (the bony arch of the vertebra) to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. While laminectomy can be an effective treatment for certain spinal conditions, some patients may experience chronic pain in the area where the surgery was performed. This pain can be caused by scar tissue formation, nerve damage, or other factors.

Symptoms of PLS can include pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling in the back, legs, or arms. The pain may be intermittent or continuous and can be aggravated by physical activity or changes in position.

Treatment for PLS typically involves a combination of medications, physical therapy, and other procedural interventions to manage the pain and improve function.

If you are experiencing chronic pain after a laminectomy, it is important to seek medical attention to determine the underlying cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Clinical assessment from our specialists and appropriate imaging (MRI, CT or X-rays) will help to identify the cause and provide prompt management for your condition.
